Live & Unplugged from Manchester’s Band on the Wall
Robbed of a summer of festivals and gigs (including one at The Pound arts centre), The Breath’s guitar whiz Stuart McCallum and Irish singer/flautist, Ríoghnach Connolly finally reunite after a very long time in isolation to present a set of music, streamed live, online.
Based in Manchester, the alt-folk duo meet at Band on the Wall, one of their favourite venues, to stream the performance. Stripped down and raw, they present a set of exquisitely crafted songs – calming, stirring and heartfelt – taken from their acclaimed catalogue plus they unveil brand new music.
At the heart of The Breath’s compelling live performances is Stuart’s understated brilliance, the perfect partner to Ríoghnach’s extraordinary, mesmerising voice and impassioned storytelling that is honest provocative and deeply personal.
Their set follows last year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination for Best Duo/Group and Ríoghnach’s award for Folk Singer of The Year. Their success recognised not only the strength of their Real World release, ‘Let the Cards Fall’ and it’s intensely powerful follow up, ‘Only Stories (Let the Cards Fall Revisited)’ an acoustic, pared back selection of songs, but the immediate, powerful, connection that the pair have with each other and their audiences.
