Earlier this year, on 13 March, Emily Barker & Lukas Drinkwater performed at The Pound. Three days later we closed our doors as we all had to adapt to this immensely challenging time. Eight months on we’re thrilled to invite Emily back to play tracks from the glorious and recently released album ‘A Dark Murmuration of Words’. We have all come a long way in a short space of time as we patiently waited for live performance to return.
Emily’s music has completely captured this moment, with the release of the blissful and poignant single ‘Return Me’ earlier in the year and album ‘A Dark Murmuration of Words’ at the beginning of September. The album is a timely exploration of climate change, racism, sexism and myths of economic progress through themes of what it means to return “home”. Emily draws connections between the familial, the local, and the global – a mother sings to her unborn child, exploring the humbleness and comfort of the night sky when far away from home.
In this fragile moment as we restart our programme, Emily’s music provides us with hope and connection.
The Pound arts centre is a COVID-19 secure venue. Please familiarise yourself with our visitor safety measures before your visit, thank you.
