KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
To work closely with the Director to identify and devise the artistic and participatory programme of Pound Arts Centre, Rural Touring and Corsham Festivals. To nurture relationships with external partners and promoters. To play a key role in the effective internal management of the organisation through excellent communication, administration and advocacy.
o To lead on the devising of an all year round programme for The Pound Arts centre
o To lead on the devising of an annual programme menu and supplementary summer menu for the rural touring scheme
o To manage the programming of Corsham Festivals
o To proactively seek and secure the programme content for all three strands: arts centre, rural touring and festivals
o To balance the programme with other users of the arts centre and in relation to other local arts provision
o To seek appropriate partnerships to enable Pound Arts to deliver its key objectives.
o Working with the Education and Learning Co-ordinator to devise a programme of Creative Learning events to compliment the year round presented programmes of Pound Arts.
o To seek opportunities to bring artists and audiences together, facilitating audience development and open access to the programmes of Pound Arts.
o To play an active role in Pound Arts’ Catalyst scheme.
o To lead on the training and development of rural touring promoters.
o To ensure the organisation meets the programming requirements (and targets) set out in agreements with its public funders (Arts Council England, Wiltshire Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Corsham Town Council)
o To nurture new relationships with small scale touring companies, including shared tours with other comparable venues, rural touring schemes and festivals
o To liaise with partners, organisations and agencies within Wiltshire, the South West region and nationally to explore and develop partnership projects including shared tours
o To negotiate and produce contracts for artists
o To programme the three strands within the budgets agreed by the board and to assist the Executive Director with the annual setting and half year review of budgets
o To maintain up-to-date, accurate budgetary records
o To seek project funding as required
o To liaise with the box office & venue coordinator and promoters to ensure appropriate technical requirements are in place
o To liaise with rural touring promoters to ensure rural touring events are delivered efficiently and effectively
o To arrange and chair internal programming meetings with key members of staff
Marketing and audience development
o To provide the box office and marketing staff with appropriate details of visiting companies and events
o To contribute to each season and festival brochure, in particular, producing copy for live and workshops events
o To contribute ideas to ensure effective marketing of the organisation’s work
o In liaison with the Executive Director and Marketing Assistant to consider audience development aims when creating the programme
Contribute to the effective running of the organisation & venue
o To support/deputise for the Director, as required.
o To contribute to the duty management of performances and events on a rota basis in liaison with other members of the staff team
o To line manage the part-time centre & administration assistants
o To attend weekly staff meetings, bi-monthly board meetings and other internal meetings as required
o To observe and promote Pound Arts’ health and safety policy
o To deputise for the Executive Director as required.
Any other duties as may reasonably be required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Excellent written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain good contacts and relationships.
• Previous experience of programming arts events in a related field (Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, Film, Literature or Comedy).
• Experience of contract negotiation.
• Project and event management experience.
• Ability to work without supervision and to use own initiative.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Budget management skills and experience.
• Experience of successful funding applications to charities, trusts and foundations and other related bodies.
• Willingness to work unsocial hours.
• Passion and interest for Rural Touring.
• Ability to prioritise workload.
• Interest in arts education and participation.
• Knowledge/experience of arts funding
• Educated to degree level.
• Ability to drive (unless prevented from holding a licence through disability)
• Experience of partnership working.
• Experience in dealing with the public.
• A creative and strategic mind
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Title of Post: Deputy Director (Programming)
Working hours: For full time staff, working hours are normally 37.5 per week excluding meal breaks, to include some evening and weekend duties (the frequency depends on the post) on a rota with other staff. There is no paid overtime but where possible TOIL can be arranged.
Holidays: For full time staff, the annual holiday entitlement is 20 working days in addition to statutory bank holidays. For part time staff, the holiday entitlement is pro rata.
Salary: £21,000 depending on skills and experience.
Salaries are paid monthly in arrears by cheque on the final Friday of each month.
Probation: For all permanent posts, there is a six month probationary period which will be followed by a review meeting.
Notice period: One month’s notice is required.
