YOUTH THEATRE DIRECTOR
|
The Pound is looking for an experienced freelance drama practitioner to run and develop its resident youth theatre ActNoW.
ActNoW meets at The Pound every Saturday during term time from 9.15am-5pm and on one week day evening.
The youth theatre director will lead the delivery and creative direction of ActNoW as well as being responsible for the training and development of the trainee theatre practitioners.
The youth theatre director will report to the organisation’s learning and participation coordinator.
Fee commensurate with experience.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
o To run ActNoW youth theatre on Saturdays during term times from 9.15am-5pm (30 days a year) and one weekend night
o To work closely alongside the learning and participation co-ordinator in the planning of youth theatre activities, shows and evaluation
o To work with the programme manager to assist with and contribute ideas to the centre’s theatre programming
o To teach the youth theatre members new skills in stage acting, devising and stage management
o To empower participants to make creative decisions and produce high quality work
o To direct and produce high quality youth theatre productions
o To programme informal end of term showcases for each group when appropriate
o To encourage youth theatre members to attend live performances at The Pound
o To attend at least three theatre performances per year at The Pound.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
o A broad range of expertise and knowledge of the performing arts and in particular theatre
o Experience of working with young people on creative projects
o A passion for youth theatre and the ability to motivate and inspire young people to realise their full potential
o Ambition for the future creative development of the youth theatre
o Experience of working with different ages (5-25) and abilities
o Experience in directing theatre productions
o Excellent communication and presentation skills
o Project management experience and excellent organisational skills
o Enthusiastic, positive outlook
o An awareness of Arts Award
Desirable
o Proven experience in youth theatre leadership
o Experience in the delivery of Arts Award / being an Arts Award Advisor
o Experience of partnership working
