SPEAKERS & PERFORMERS
Saili Katebe (Performance Poet)
Saili Katebe is a Zambian born writer, performer and workshop facilitator based in the South West of England. His work celebrates the musicality of language and the power of art as a way to connect people through story and creativity. Saili has appeared on stages across the country and had his work featured on BBC Arts and BBC Radio Bristol.
Nicola Davis (The Power of Body Positive Art)
Since recovering from anorexia, Nicola Davis began to theme her artwork around women’s bodies: embracing their similarities and differences. This practise helped to accelerate her recovery to a new level of self-love. Nicola believes we all have the ability to be comfortable in our own bodies, and art is one of the ways we can achieve this.
Dr Tanvir Bush (Here’s Mud In Your Eye!)
Tanvir Bush will talk on how her own experience of sight loss led her to recognise the incredible value of the disabled community and to fight for a future where all bodies and abilities are seen as truly human and absolutely integral to our survival. Tanvir is a novelist, artist and Research Fellow on the Wellcome funded ‘We Are The People’ project exploring inclusion, disability and grass-roots research across the South West, UK.
Christian Hacker (Rewriting My Social Contract)
Christian is a student at Corsham School. He is about to embark on his second year of A-Levels. With a passionate interest in philosophy, he has crafted a talk on Rewriting his Social Contract. “Every citizen follows the unwritten Social Contract – the agreement that states for everyone’s sake (and rationally yours) you must abide by the law. What happens without this contract, and does the Social Contract truly afford the best compromise for the ideal society?”
Julien Warren (Making A Scene: how digital is transforming access to the theatre archives)
“Rather than focusing on the actors, the director or the writers, the project focuses on the functions of the set, costume, lighting and sound designers, together with the stage managers and finance, to try and encourage an understanding of these crucial roles, and maybe potential career pathways.”
Zahra, Hassan and Amena (Becoming Changemakers: A story of 3 kids, 9 years and 13 tons of recycling)
“Moving to Asia 10 years ago, Zahra (16), Hassan (13) and Amena (10) spotted a problem, came up with a solution, influenced adults to change their behaviour patterns, prevented 13 tonnes of recycling materials from going to landfill and helped support an impoverished family in Kenya along the way.”
Larkhall (Performance Pianist)
Algorithms are art. Coding is creative. Let Larkhall show you. Mad scientist and prizewinning concert pianist Larkhall has invented a computer system named Otto, who creates live visual projections responding in real time to his performance. See technology, visual art and music collide in this moving, cinematic performance of the future.
