On Wednesday 5 th August, the international multi-disciplinary artist Philipp Humm and a company of actors will be rehearsing his first play “THE ROOM” and presenting it to an audience for comment and observations that will help to guide its further development, to make it ready for a full production in 2027. You are cordially invited to take this rare opportunity to see an artist and company at work, as part of the audience for the evening’s final rehearsed reading.
The Story: Four dead individuals awaken inside a transparent, doorless chamber governed by an enigmatic Voice and an unseen system. A failed accountant, an autocratic ruler, a billionaire AI-inventor, and a philosopher are gradually forced to confront the wounds, delusions, and compromises that defined their lives. As the room strips away status and identity, they discover they are being processed. What begins as a metaphysical interrogation becomes a meditation on power, technological transcendence, loneliness, and the fate of humanity in a post-human AI-age. At its core, The Room asks whether authentic human connection can survive in a world optimized beyond the need for human beings.
What distinguishes THE ROOM is its combination of existential theatre, AI governance, and post-human themes. Expect a combination of Beckett, Sartre, and Kafka.
THE ROOM is part of Philipp Humm’s latest suite of works warning of the dangers of AI, and follows his previous works inspired by the legend of Goethe’s Faust, including a feature film starring Steven Berkoff.
