About the event
A new series of silent-era classics arrives at The Pound Arts Centre, all accompanied by live piano score performed by BFI Southbank’s resident pianist Meg Morley. Since performing for her first silent film in 2016, Meg has quickly become one of the UK’s pre-eminent silent film accompanists, performing at various international film festivals and playing reguarly at the London Cinema Museum.
Buster Keaton is at the height of his slapstick powers in this comedy masterpiece of the silent era. Keaton stars as a photographer who takes up newsreel shooting to impress a beautiful office worker, played by Marceline Day. Rushing across Manhattan in search of a scoop, the young photographer encounters all kinds of mishaps and even teams up with a monkey sidekick. Considered to be Keaton’s last great work, it offers an intriguing glimpse behind the camera into the workings of1920’s Hollywood.
