BLUE SKY FESTIVAL HEADLINERS ANNOUNCED: STEVE KNIGHTLEY, GENO WASHINGTON & MICHAEL ROSEN
POSTED: 14/04/2016 10:10:44
BLUE SKY FESTIVAL IN CORSHAM, 23-26 JUNE

In its second year, the Blue Sky Festival is set to surprise, entertain and amaze audiences across North Wiltshire. Curated by Pound Arts, this family arts festival is dedicated to bringing our community the best in music, comedy, film and participatory workshops.

Russ Tunney, Director of Pound Arts says…
“We have been busy in the office hatching plans for this year’s Blue Sky Festival, talking to world class artists to entice them to Corsham in June. We’ve been bursting to tell you that we have Britain’s most celebrated folk songwriter Steve Knightley- the force behind Show of Hands, soul legend Geno Washington (immortalised by Dexy’s Midnight Runners in their hit “Geno”), will make you dance away your Saturday night with The Yoyos. Novelist, poet and former children’s Laureate Michael Rosen, the writer of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” will perform on our opening day and we are delighted to see the return of our reggae choir event which will see 100 children from six local schools perform with a 24 piece reggae band on our Blue Sky stage at Springfield Campus.

It’s going to be a really special festival and we really want to see you at some of the events. This is just a sample of the programme – we will release more next week – look on our website or ring the box office for more details!

We are also very thankful to our sponsors Hunter French, Heywood Prep, Corsham Town Council, Arts Council England, Pound Arts and Wiltshire Council, it would be impossible to run an event like this without their support”.

Opening the Festival is Michael Rosen with his Schools Show.  A poet, performer, broadcaster and scriptwriter, Michael is also one of Britain’s best-known figures in children's literature.  His voice will be familiar to BBC listeners and he is currently presenting Word of Mouth, the magazine programme that looks at the English language and the way we use it.

One of the biggest names in the British Folk scene, Steve Knightley, will be headlining Friday night at Springfield Community Campus. The song-writing force behind Show of Hands, Knightley is widely acclaimed as one of the finest folk musicians in England.

American R&B legend Geno Washington and his band The Yo-Yos will be setting the stage alight on Saturday night with their sizzling set of Blues & Soul. A well-seasoned performer,   Geno will undoubtedly have you up and dancing before the night is through.

The Blue Sky Children’s Choir will return to the Festival on the Friday, this year working with the amazing Bristol Reggae Orchestra.
