DAVID BADDIEL AND JOSIE LONG TO SHOWCASE AT CORSHAM’S ANNUAL BLUE SKY FESTIVAL
POSTED: 03/06/2019 15:48:59
Festival line-up also includes ‘John Peel’s Shed’, ‘Jonny and the Baptists’, ‘Folk in a Box’, and more.

3 JUNE 2019 - Corsham’s magnificent Blue Sky community arts festival – now in its fifth year - promises a sensational programme of music, comedy, theatre, visual arts, and more.

This family-friendly festival takes over the picturesque town of Corsham and turns the streets into bustling stages for roaming-performers, buskers, troubadours and a ‘pick-n-mix’ of up-and-coming musicians.

Events start Tuesday 11th June at The Pound arts centre with Dig! And ‘The Day I Fell Into A Book’. Magical storytelling and music for young festival-goers.

Artists Jo Taylor and Anya Beaumont’s sculpture exhibition - Flourish – exploring built environments, will go on show for the duration of the festival.

The ever-fascinating comedian, TV presenter and author of five children’s books, David Baddiel, will talk about and read from his latest adventure, Head Kid, followed by a meet-and-greet and book signing.

We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome leading comedian Josie Long to the 2019 festival in partnership with the incredible Jonny and The Baptists for the riotous ‘Lefty Scum’ – a political comedy show that’s guaranteed to encourage a revolution!

For a special Father’s Day treat, we’ve lined up a day of workshops and performances including John Osborne’s John Peel’s Shed. Featuring a selection of records previously owned by the late John Peel, many of which are very rare recordings by obscure and now defunct bands, this is a unique opportunity for all Peel fans.

Folk in a Box is an ornately carved, single-person auditorium. Enter the box and have a folk concert for one in the UK’s smallest performance venue.

From a long line-up of musicians performing, special mentions should be made to folk and pop musician Rachael Dadd and the Blue Sky Festival Choir (circa 130 local school children); Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids with his record-breaking vocal percussion; and The Brass Funkeys: a new generation of UK brass bands bringing galloping gypsy, soulful jazz and pumping brass driven funk to Corsham.

Visitors can chill in The Pound café bar, enjoy a silent disco (and watch some Dad Dancing on Sunday 16th), or failing that, sit in a quiet auditorium and watch one of two films, including the Oscar-winning ‘The Favourite’.

The festival takes place in Corsham from Tuesday 11 to Sunday 16 June with events taking place at The Pound arts centre, Springfield Community Campus and Corsham High Street. Tickets can be purchased in person at The Pound, online at www.blueskyfestival.org.uk or from the box office on 01249 701 628.

Much of the festival is free to attend. Some events are free but ticketed. Evening performances at The Pound are ticketed and priced individually.
