Caroline Rudge produces work to commission, has produced murals for two restaurants, large portraits for corporate banks, set painting for theatres, drawings and animations for a visual facilitation company, and continues to make work for exhibition. Caroline's recent body of work combines time honoured techniques with postmodern sensibilities. Using self-taught traditional skills of painting in egg tempera and gilding, her striking paintings juxtapose the classic with the contemporary. One strand of her current work focuses on the custom of still-life painting. Her exquisitely observed birds, beetles, nests and animals evoke a fusion of icon paintings and traditional memento mori. The rich precious metal backgrounds add opulence to the subject matter, making it worthy of contemplation and creating a conflict for the viewer. For more information,www.carolinerudge.com
